A distinctive feature of the bridge is that it still opens to allow boat traffic to pass through, a process that can cause significant traffic delays but is a fascinating example of a working bridge that is integral to both road and maritime travel.

The area has limited wheelchair access available, including the lookout and ceremonial space, although some sections, such as the tunnels, are not accessible due to narrow stairs​​.

Fun Fact: The Georges Head Battery was built between 1801 and 1803 and is one of three forts in the area that were built for the purpose of defending the outer harbour. The other two forts are located at Middle Head and Bradleys Head, Mosman.
